Thumbs up

I have mentioned this under my recent Bogota Trip Report but I will cut and paste that paragraph here. I think it can be worth your while:

Wanted to get some general dental work done while I was in Lima in April but when I saw the general condition of their teeth compared to Colombia, I decided to put it off. A kind Gringo gave me the phone # of a dentista he used named Pilar Morales. I got general quality work done here for aprox. 1/3 the cost of my local dentist. It can easily cover the cost of your airfare in savings and I'm talking quality work. I will also post this info under Money Matters. Her office phone is 235-7791, 235-9918 and her address is Cra 26, #52-A-15. It's near downtown or 15 minutes from Charlie's if not in rush hour. I can recommend her and her sister Yolanda. Pilar speaks English.

This is absolutely a great idea to do. I too have had my dental work done by Pilar while down there.

It is crazy to spend three times the cost up here.

On my next trip I am going to have her do two crowns. She does great work.

This is a real find. Basically, my savings will pay for the cost of the flight!

Question

Thanks for the info. This is a long shot but... do you know if Pilar does periodontal work? Or do you know of any of you know any Bogotano/a odontólogo/a that does periodontal work?

FF, as far as I know, Pilar does general dental work. Bill123 may know more, but a simple phone call can clear it up. She may be able to recommend someone. As always, allow enough time to get the work done. This is Colombia remember. In my opinion, Colombian dentists, if picked right, are the equal of dentists here at a much lower cost. Just look at the average Colombiana's teeth.

By periodontal work, what do you mean? Do you mean deep cleaning?

Deep cleaning? Probably that. All I really know is that my regular dentist made a referal, and my insurance doesn't cover it. HT has a very good point about the phone call. I need to get down there, but unfortunately can't put a date on my next trip.

I'm not sure either what work you need done. Calling is cheap and FYI, Pilar works from 2:00 pm on. Of course this means 2:15 or 2:30 in Colombia. They are on an equivilant of our Central time right now. I'd give you her email but it's a waste of time. Email is not an option to her in operating her dental business. I understand.

HT, can you post some photos of the work you had done? I don't want to end up with some of those "Billy Bob" choppers, even if they are reasonably priced! Just busting your chops! (pun intended) LOL I may need her for some crowns, no joke....

Trust me...she is good. She also shares the office with her sister, who is also a dentist. On my next trip, I need two crowns done, and they are just too damn expensive up here. Besides not having dental insurance!

In my personal opinion, if gringos go to there dentists up here, and pay 3 times the cost, they are nuts!

Wink

I have one crown I need right now, but going to try and get by a while because of the cost. My biggest concern is the turn around time to get it completely done? I may not be down there long enough. The other thing is my next trip may be back to Cali, so I wonder if anyone can recommend a dentist there? I have seen it advertised somewhat on LWC's web site, but I'd rather hear from someone who actually used a dentist, like you guys have in Bogota. Are they up to par on the autoclave sterilization systems? That is another question I had......
