Question Capital One Credit Card

Who has one? Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

Is it true they charge no foreign transaction fee? If so, I may go ahead and apply for one.

Lets hear some input...

What's in your wallet??

Thumbs up Re: Capital One Credit Card

BIG E -

Capitol One is the only credit card I use when traveling abroad. Zero fees for all transactions; ATM or direct merchandise charges.

Highly recommended.

Big E, I have a Capital One MilesOne Business Platinum card so I don't use it for pleasure.

For international travel I use my local bank's check/debit card. I don't recall there ever having been a transaction fee, but they do charge $1 per month just to have it. I only use it for ATM withdrawls when out of the country.

I've rarely used a CC SOTB. In the rare cases I have, it's a Chase and I don't recall what their transaction fees were.

I guess not much help here

I have a Capital One credit card and it charges ZERO foreign transaction fee and also pays me 1% cash back. It is the only card that I have found with this. WaMu has a 1% FTF and most cards 3%. So a $100 Capital One credit card transaction costs me $99, WaMU $101 and most cards $103. When you travel a lot or live in a foreign country, this is a big deal.

Also Capital One has an on-line savings account. I transfer money on-line and when I use the ATM there is also no transaction fee. Plus I earn a little interest while my money sits and waits for me to use it.

Both cards are free and there are no service charges whatsoever.

I've had the Capital One card for about 2 years and got it for the one and only reason of no foreign transaction fees. I ONLY use it when I travel abroad, as I have other cards that give me better benefits. But I've used the card in Colombia and other Latin American countries and also in Europe. One caveat....do bring another card, particularly one from another company (my Capital One is a Visa, so I also bring another master card). I have had my Capital One card declined from time to time. I'm not sure if it's a Capital One issue or if the place where I tried to use it has an issue with using Visa. Unlike the US, some places take one card or the other, but not both.

Default Mechanics Bank ATM/Debit card

I'm waiting for my Mechanics Bank new application package to be forwarded to me from the United States. I've read that there's no foreign transaction fee, and that they refund any foreign bank fees. They also accepted no bailout money.

You can apply online.

A great point GrizGator. ALWAYS CARRY A SECOND CREDIT CARD AND A SECOND ATM CARD.
I don't think this is necessarily an issue with Capital One. There are so many reasons why a card may not work in a foreign country from time to time and you need a back up.
