I had a good system for getting money to my novia in Barranquilla, until today when she was robbed of her ATM card. I haven't gotten all the details yet, but at least she's okay. And I've already closed the card out before the ratero has used it. But, until I can get a new card to her, I need to know the best way to get money to her in the meantime. Who has found the best rate for wiring money? Thanks for any info anyone has.

Cool

Money gram is about the cheapest but has limited hours but has more places to pick up the Money ,for Western Union She would need to go to a western Union office, but can get the money normaly at more convient times , Money Grams fee is about $12.00 Per $100.00 Us Dollors and the exchange rate varies, Wetstern Union is about $15.00 per $100.00 Us Dollars and they also vary the exchange rate, on 9-22-01 I sent $100.00 to cali. the exchange rate then through western Union was $2222.0017 which meant My Novia would be able to pick up 222001.00 Pesos , Hope that helps.

Desert Dan, thanks! Wish I had seen your reply this morning before I sent the money. I used Money Gram. It cost me $14 to send $100. But, I probably should have used Western Union, because it's more convenient with their website, and if their hours are more convenient as you suggested, it would have probably been better, as tomorrow is another of the numerous Colombian holidays. So the banks will probably be closed. Either way, it seems that the wiring business is probably very profitable.

Any ideas on safely shipping the next ATM card down to her when it arrives? Which service to use and how much it runs for something like FedX?

Again, thanks for the info.

Don Diego, Western Union about the same amount quoted. I spent $40 to send $300 once. In Bogota some offices gave the choice of her getting the $ in pesos or dollars. She can usually get more pesos if she changes dollars at a better rate. A lot is to be learned how they treat the $ we give them. FedX is the way to send a new ATM card. Cost used to be $25 and it arrived secure in 2 or 3 days.

FYI..A woman I went out with in Bogota sent me an email last night and said she was robbed by 2 men going to the bank with cash from the business she works at. Street crime is very high all over Colombia.
