Thanks for the great links Angie...very helpful.

Jim you're right on...lot less hassle and can probably stay in a nicer plice if you rent rather than buy, particullarly if you'll only be there for a few months per year.

Thumbs up Re: New Real Estate Forum

Gentlemen -

I've spent a better part of last 5 years comping real estate in Brazil and Colombia. I now can say with confidence that I know the low down on the market in both countries. That said, as soon as I can spare an hour, I will type up a spread sheet if you will on the real estate game from my perspective. And no question about it -- if and when you find you're little paradise, without question...Buy, buy and buy! The problem is the intangibles, and there are so many! And it's a lot of work finding out everything there is to know! However, Jim's insite on his perspective is valid, Because once you pull the trigger and buy... selling is not so easy, especially in today's market. If others have experience in real estate in Latin America; Central and/or South America...please add your comments.

We thank you for choosing to share your real estate experiences on GRINGOTALK

regarding the real state and buying property, there are some clarifications that need to be done

a) when you buy assets before the marriage to the colombian citizens, those asset are yours except if you sell them during the marriage
b) when you sell the asset during the time of marriage, that money is now owned by the community of marriage ( sociedad conyugal) so in the moment you are liquidating it, your lawyer should ask for the refund of this money...that where the deal of the divorce is

Very true. Colombian law recognizes 'common law' spouse for people living together under one roof for two years or more. There are ways around this, but you have to be very shrewd to protect your assets in Colombia.

Thumbs up Medellin Apartments for Rent, and wanted for Rent

We don't have a lot of properties for sale but we seem to have expanding our list of furnished apartments for rent in El Poblado. I can't rent out cheap properties in Poblado because Poblado is just expensive. Small towns in the states definately have cheaper rent than in El Poblado.

Looking for Rentals in Medellin outside Poblado:
I myself would like to have more property rentals outside of Poblado for many of my friends that are on tight budgets, or have suffered from the economic crisis in the states or in Europe.

For no we have a list of over 65 Medellin Apartments.

We also find room mates for people as well, just because people requested it. Rooms are a great way to save cash, and are a great option for some of us who didn't retire so wealthy. If your looking for roommates email me here or contact me through my website. (economic crisis buster service )

Cheers!

James

Is it really close to $1K per month for a studio apartment in Medillin or is it just a case of the ones posted on the internet being the most expensive?

I was amazed at how cheap real estate is in barranquilla when I was there. How is pereira compared to BAQ? Cheaper, more expensive, or the same ? (in generel of course)
