I looked at a highrise penthouse in barranquilla that they said was 10,000 sq ft, (but it looked to me to be closer to 6,000 sf), for U.S. $350,000. I thout that was pretty cool.

My experiences buying and furnishing an Apartment.
After retiring I downsized my material goods to a small storage unit and headed south to Cali Colombia for many of the same reasons that that lure many men to Colombia. I enjoyed living in Barrio Granada but had reasons to move further south, at the time I saw advantages to buying an apartment and following the advice of my friend Robert Vignola, I looked for pre or new construction, my other search criteria was to be further south, around Palmetto Plaza/ Cosmo Centre, a secure gated complex with pool and playground for kids, mid priced. I found what I was looking for so I bought. In early 2007 there was allot of new apt being built in Cali and where selling well, not so any more. I bought with out the finish package as the contractor wanted a premium price for crap closets. My Apt. was ready to move into, in March 2009, I started buying furniture and making it comfortable for me.
We hear it said about the wonderful south of the border laid back, relaxed, manana lifestyle, and its true! But that also goes for things like customer service after the sale, respect for guarantees, delivery times and dates and just lying there asses off. I have never experienced being stood up and lied to so much. One guy showed up in the morning unannounced to advise me that he would be back in the afternoon to finish his work, I didn’t see that guy for a week. I could have developed an ulcer, but It became comical. I did try to hire people with good reputations and with recommendations, but I believe that it is business as usual here. Okay so most of that is over and I the apartment is very comfortable for me. Definitely a challenge and an experience. For those of you that do business down here, My hat is off to you! You must have the patience of a Saint!

Post Newly Remodeled House for Sale Near Cali

Due to our impending divorce, I am placing the house that I built in El Carmelo (near Cali) up for sale.

This is a small, safe pueblo of 3,000 inhabitants about 15 minutes outside of the city limits.
Look at what you get for the $55,000 that we are asking.

Corner lot in the best barrio of the pueblo, overlooking a vacant finca on the other side of the street. Friendly inhabitants and local (walk to)shopping.

Views of both cordilleras of el Valle.

Constructed of very high grade materials.

Front house: Modern design, 2 bedrooms, oversize modern bath, and modern locale (space for placing a personal business or could convert to a third bedroom).

Apartment in back to rent with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, and patio.

Reinforced with heavy duty rebar and oversized second floor foundation to put another house (or addition to the existing house) on the second floor. If this isn´t enough for you, you could also put a third story on the house.

Well ventilated and much more light inside than many Colombian houses.

New: Subflooring, tile floors, plaster, doors, windows, paint, electrical service, plumbing, kitchen, bath (with glass enclosure and 2 shower attachments).

Believe me, that if my circumstances were different, I wouldn´t be moving. But I have to bite the bullet and move on.

If other members also have suggestions as to other websites that would help me make the sale soon, I would appreciate your input.

Please contact me through gringos.com, email patcampbell1950@yahoo.com, or 011-57-317-616-2680.

Thanks.

Roger, your experiences are very interesting. I'm glad you have a sense of humor.
Patrick, I hope things work out for you. I monitor this website for real estate. I believe a forum member provided the link. It seems to be like a Colombian Craigs list. Perhaps you can advertise your home here, http://cali.olx.com.co/

Patrick -

If you are unable to sell your home and/or your stuff....?

I advise donating whatever you have of value to http://www.pazanimal.org/indexdos.html

I did this with all my stuff. I had enough with unreliable Colombians trying to jip me off, therefore I decided to just give it to a viable organization in Cali COLOMBIA - because I know this organization on a personal level.

Fyi: Selling your home in today's market will be difficult and I wish you luck.

Last Lion,

My plan is stay in Cali as long as I make enough income to get by (and I'm not talking about going out to discoteks).

I think that I am ready to take you up on your tag line that LL can figure it out. Feel free to PM me if you need more details of the situation.

I am gonna pm you.

I know of 2 americans that buy and sell in colombia. They both have unique ways of selling there properties. Both of them always sell there own properties.

Both of them market there own houses and put them in the papers , advertised as "American style" . Colombians love the american style homes. Yours definetely has some nice qualities for the house it is.

If you leave that house with just a sign on it , or hire a lame ass colombian realtor, you will be waiting for a year at least..
