Normally, when using a credit card over the phone or over a secured internet site all you have to do is use your card ID number and your expiration date. But I ran across a site from one of the vendors in this industry that also wants us to put in a three digit security code on the form too. This code is located on the back of every card.

I have been advised by my bank to NOT supply them with this code. They said there is no need to have to use it. But the problem is that the transaction won;t go thru without it.

So what am I supposed to do????

I'd listen to your bank. I use credit cards for so much stuff from internet to mail order and I've never had to supply this #. In fact I had to look on the back of the card just to see what you were talking about. I don't know what they could do with the info. They would already have your CC# and exp date. What more could they want... Why not ask them?

HT,

I've always been aware of the security number, but rarely have used it of needed it. It is my understanding that it it used mostly by your own bank when you are calling in an address change---it protects the bank and you.

For a vendor to be using it is rare, and I am not inclined to want to give it up to them.

Thumbs up

This subject has been brought up 2x on this board recently..once by Bill and once by me under the Phone topic.. I was asked for this 3 digit # 2x tonight, once trying to order a phone card and once trying to order flowers thru Nelson's. I called my CC company and got the info straight from the horses mouth. VISA told me it's ok to give this # out if you know who you are dealing with as in Nelson's (who I know) or a secure web site. If you use a CC in any business and your card is swiped thru the machine, it will pick up this super secret # as well. I don't want to alarm the Gringos into thinking that this shouldn't ever be given like I thought.
