Real Estate Question... Regarding Colombia

Hi,
How does one go about buying property in colombia? For some reason I get a feeling that if I went to the bank and said I wanted to buy a condo in colombia, they would call the cops and break out a straight jacket. Can anyone shed some light on this subject.

Buying property in Colombia is pretty easy. Would you like to buy our condo in Cali?

All you need is a reasonably honest lawyer to help review the transaction documents, a good real estate agent and you're off. There are no restrictions on foreign ownership that limit you from buying a condo. Don't count on the bank financing your purchase, however. Unless you are a resident and have a cedula, you are not going to get an account at a bank and can't really get a loan. But, that being said, the prices in cash are not more than what a down payment would be here.

Once the purchase is completed, you need to get the property properly registered so that you get your tax bills and such. The lawyer can help you with all that. Just pay as the work is being completed by him/her.
