Most of you know that I'm in Costa Rica right now. I've been giving some thought to travelling to either Colombia or Peru in my continue quest for a wife.

I'm wondering if everyone could provide some advice based on the following criteria I've set out:

-I'm looking for which is the most reasonable in terms of flights from San Jose or Panama City.
-As I am currently able to continue my business with a high speed internet connection in my apartment, I need to know which country & city is the easiest to have this set up rapidly and effeciently in one's apartment
-Speaking of apartments, my preference would be to live in a cheap bachelor or one bedroom apartment. I may even be open to living in a hostel, provided I could get a dedicated and secure line area for my voIP connection. In which country/city would this be most possible?

You help in this regard is most appreciated!

Mark

Why are you giving up on Costa Rica already? Didnt you just move there? There are tons of available women.

If you struck out in CR, then dont be surprized if you catch alot of fast balls, curve balls, and the occasional slider in Colombia. Besides, those women sure know how to "play ball" if you know what I mean.

Answer to your questons; 1. Try Copa airlines. 2. In Bogota you can find affordable housing w/high speed internet. There's a gazillion women in Bogota, if you cant find your media naranja there...you must be a real SMF!

Thanks. Not a question of striking out. Purita has done an oustanding job (Spanish Eyes) of introducing me t some great women. None of them really clicked however and maybe I'm a chicken but I'm hardly the type that goes out on the pick up scene.

Mark...maybe you're looking too hard. Have you thought of that? What does Spanish Eyes, and the pick up scene have in common? Most of the dates you meet at Tom's home/office, with Purita there...but you're saying that didn't work? Can you expand on what the problem was/is, so we can help point you in the right direction? It would help if you gave us a breakdown of what exactly it is you're looking for in a woman.

If, you are really serious about bugging out of CR, and need a High Speed connection as a prerequisite...remember that you are NOT going to get broadband of any type in the smaller outlying areas...so that's going to limit your choices. Everyone (well almost everyone) will tell you to head to Colombia...I'm going to tell you to head to Peru, and Lima. Copa, Lan Peru, and Lan Chile will get you there from either San Jose, or Panama City. If you want to mix it up, head to Santiago, Chile as well. If you really are adamant about doing the Internet Dating thing (nothing wrong with that), these two cities would be good choices, and you'll find more than a fe gals on both Cybercupido and Latin American Cupid. No dating agencies in Santiago, but remember Janet at LPS in Lima.

Give us an update, and fill in the blanks for us sou we can help you out as best as we can.

Thanks everyone. Perhaps my expectations weren't realistic. I have nothing but great thins to say for Spanish Eyes. Heck, in the last 2 months, I've met and dated more women than I have in 2 years in Canada. (Nearly 20 in total)

By not working out, I guess that it's just I haven't met the one who really gives the ''twich''. I just didn't come across any with whom I clicked. As for the pick up scene and its relation to Spanish Eyes, there was no relation. I just wanted to point out that hanging around the universities and bars as suggested earlier by one of the other members isn't my cup of tea - I'm much more of a laid back type.

Seeing that there really are any real alternatives to Spanish Eyes and that I've exhausted Purita's base of women who fit into what I'm looking for, I was thinking that it might be time for me to move on while I can (I'm taking an extended hiatus from life in Canada).

Not sure if this helps, but it's the conclusion I've come to. I'm open to be convinced otherwise.

Good Morning Mark,

Okay, so now I've got the picture.

I suppose the next question would be, where would you rather go? I asssume your Spanish is pretty decent, and that you have a good understanding of what goes on around you as you walk down the street.

Do you want to go teach English in another country, or are you up for some traveling? If you're on hiatus, I suppose this means you want to make the most of your travels, in both respects...experiencing something, and hopefully running into someone to experience it with along the way...

Any hobbies, or special interests that pique your curiosity? Give us a couple of ideas as to what direction to send you in...how about fly fishing in Tierra de Fuego...once it thaws?

Ya, my Spanish has improved quite a lot in my time here. I've wondered about French Guiana as it's in South America and I'm fluent in French but that's another story. I know there are no agencies there and I've heard no word on what a search would be like there.

Funny you mention fishing. I LOVE fishing! I'm not too much into the $500 charges a lot of the fishing tour companies in Costa Rica like to charge however! I've often wondered what it would be like to be in the crowd of a roaring stadium of soccer fans in Latin America. A lot of energy, for sure!

In general, I'd like to be able to do things on the cheap.

I'm interested as well in living in an area where I can continue some of my business from Canada. All I need is a high speed internet connection. Currently, my rent in Costa Rica is pretty cheap - $350/month with everything included. It's not a palace but it does the deal and it's in a safe neighborhood. I'm not sure if this kind of an arrangement is possible elsewhere, but there's always hope.

I'm also the type that doesn't mind ''roughing it excursions'' for a few days away from home base. I've already done this in CR, staying at a hostel in Quepos.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Hey, Mark, just out of curiosity, how many women did you meet through Purita? When we talked at Spanish Eyes, it sounded as if your search was going pretty well, that was back towards the end of July. Later.

Mark, I spent some time in CR and reached the conclusion that Colombia was a better bet. You can read some of my trip reports which show that Colombia was a good decision for me.
