Default JW żUna pregunta si usted hace?

In my ridiculous quest to ‘understand’ Latin America, I came across a tidbit concerning Nicaragua.

Is it true, as far as you know, that the ‘Sand (in your face) knee (suds)’, did not engage is the usual killings of those opposing them?

As this is a time honored tradition in LA, and most of the rest of the world, I find this amazing….it is civilized also.

What is wrong with them? Faux Latinos!

Yes they did, and many here have not forgotten it....

Googgle YATAMA and Red Christmas Nicaragua

my wife has horror stories of her own I have been writing.....

when she was five their home was surrounded in the night, and her grandfather taken from the house with a hood over his head, and spent 2 years in one of the baddest prisons in the world for being a Moravian Preacher and speaking out about the atrocities committed against the Miskito Indians.....

First is especially awesome and tells truth good and bad about Nicaragua & El Salvador from guy who worked closely with both FDN Contras in Nicaragua & El Sal Army. My only complaint is both dudes wrote fantastic must-read books but didn't talk about my boys in ARDE Frente Sur who hung tough fighting the good fight inside southern third of Nicaragua from 82 till end in 90. Finally a couple people setting the record straight.

Timothy Brown's book is great read too.

JW…Thanks!

I listened to a video lecture by Noam Chomsky and read another brief, by an author whose’s name I can remember. Both stated that that the Sandinistas were as pure and white as the driven snow.

Thought it was too good to be true, so thought I’d run it by you.

Hopefully you will understand the following comment.

The indigenous tribes in Latin America are often thought of as a blight on the land and should be exterminated. The oligarchy, who mainly derive their august status, from having at least one of their indigenous ancestors, raped or having consensual sex with a Spaniard, and are therefore of a higher standard because of some spilt Spanish sperm.

In my short stay here, I have witnessed a few out right and disgusting displays of racial prejudice. Naturally I find it offensive. However, looking back on the history of the US, we are hardly ‘poster children’ for love one love all. Latinos are just 150 years behind us.

Just whish they were smarter than us and did not continue ‘ethnic cleansing’.

The Miskito Indian was treated it's worst in their history ever by the Sandinistas.

They embraced the Sandinistas at first but after 18 months of the baddest treatment they ever had in their history they revolted, even Somoza left them alone and to their own directions.....

It was from this, the civil war started, years ahead of the so called Contra $hit, I have friends here that started with Bows and arrows against them.....

I have stories from friends here that would raise the hair on the back of your neck from shock and anger.

Well JW, thanks for the info on the YATAMA/NICARAGUA ACCORD. Also a special thanks for pulling my head out of my ass. Have no idea why I thought it was remotely possible or it could have been true.

Default Labor Court..Been there?

I did not see anywhere else to put this subject so here it is......

For those of us doing business in Central and South America, and even living there, this subject will pop up from time to time......

A disgruntled Worker, or maid that might be right or wrong in a dismissal for what ever the reasons......

I having been in an out of Labor Court here, more times than I care to count, most of the time winning my case because simply I treat those under me better than locals do.....

Here in Nicaragua it is best to start out on the right foot and go to MITRAB (Ministry Of Trabajo)....(hey if you don't know this simple word....Look it up, you have to learn sometime)

And let them draw up a contract with even a housekeeper...Pay her Seguro Social.....Vacations, 13th month bonus, and Alginaldos and done.....

If an employee is out of line, a letter calling attention to him/her is required......

Both a copy to the person and to the Labor Board....

After 3 times you can call a meeting to the Labor board, they figure what is owed the employee, and THEY fire the one that cannot perform......NOT YOU......

I do not know how it is in other places...But this is what I have learned in the school of hard knocks here in Nicaragua...
