Question Life in Nicaragua

Can we get a new listing started for Nicaragua under OTHER LATIN COUNTRIES? I hear it's very nice, safe, and cheap. I also hear it's going to be the next Costa Rica.

After all Nicas need love too.

I have enjoyed some excellent "Nico" cuisine in Miami but among the latins in Miami, the Nicos are not looked upon highly. Was that PC enough?

Really I heard some good things about Nicas. They are very hard workers for one. But I don't know anyone that has a full blooded one. I think most Latinos look down on Nicos in general because Nicaragua is one of the poorer countries.

I went to Managua a few years ago for three days before traveling to the Carribean. My observatios was that it is definitely one of the poorest countries I've seen in Latin America. There are nice areas but the poor areas can't be avoided like other countries. Its typical Latin America with a small wealthy class and everybody else fairly poor. Not a big middle class there thats for sure. As far as the woman , I thought they were friendly and fairly open. I was there by myself and went to TGIF Friday's for a drink one night. At the bar, I met several friendly women with one in particular very friendly. The girl spoke good english and offered to take me out with her friends. We went to a couple of clubs that were packed full of women. It was a pretty young crowd but was overall a really good time. I met several woman and would have had a better time if I had found these clubs earlier in the trip. I also met several women at the hotel and in the airport.
I think the problem with Nicaragua right now is its starting to be invaded by gringos. I have a friend whose been to San Juan Del Sur several times and now he says the novelty of Americans there is starting to wear off. Its definitely not Costa Rica but it may be on the way. Nicaragua has potential, but its no Colombia.

My wife is a Nica (by the way, the term Nica is both masculine and feminine and nico is incorrect). The major city, Managua, is much closer to sea level and thus much hotter than San Jose.

Money Magazine featured Nicaragua this month as an "off the beaten track" vacation destination.

Jim, i am giving some thought to exploring Nica again - but outside of the capital. maybe your wife has some good suggestions for me. i want an area not too difficult to get to with a good size population and nice hotels to run a tour - probably like Grenada but i have heard good things about other areas

My wife has lived in Costa Rica all of her adult life and left Nicaragua at 14. I asked her and she told me that she knows Costa Rica much better than Nicaragua.

She was born in Juigalpa in Chantales state which is northwest of the capital (north of Lake Nicaragua). It is also near sea level and very hot.

If I were going to live there, I'd either live on the Pacific Ocean where ocean front property is much more affordable than in CR or in a place with some elevation so the weather is not too hot.

As far as a gringo looking for women, virtually all of Nicaragua is virgin territory. It is one of the poorest countries in LA but with enormous potential for growth.
