Default Dah...what am I doing wrong?

Been having more trouble as late, posting on the board.

The issues vary from not being immediately directed to the forum and always having to use the other option…which works 1 out of 5 times.

I am often listed as viewing on line and yet I can not post.

When I finally get logged in and am transferring to another topic, I have to log in again.

I posted this morning and it would not allow me to view my post and therefore correct it. Finally, was able to do this but I had to exit the forum and reenter.

Is it just ME or my machine or both?

Cap'n,

Those problems sound similar to mine that I have expressed before.

You might be experiencing an annoying habit of getting logged out while composing a post, especially if it takes more than a few minutes to write your thoughts down. For that reason, everyone should copy your post before pressing the "submit reply" button. If you have been unknowingly logged out your post won't be posted, you will have to sign in, press the back button and may find what you just wrote then you can hit the submit button again.

I wish that the log in time was extended to prevent this from happening. Mods, if it isn't asking too much is there any way of getting this log out time period extended even a little because not only does one runs the risk of losing what they are composing but I find it annoying having to log in multiple times while reading the forum? Thanks!

Jib and Tinto, just something to try and let me know if it works. I've never gotten logged off unless I log off and I don't think there's anything special in my set up.

Go to the User CP at the top left in the blue tool bar. Click on it and go to Settings and Options/Edit Options...click it and go to the bottom where it says Miscellanous Options. It says you might have to change these settings if you're having trouble posting. Mine are set at WYSIWYG.

I'm not sure what the deal is with getting logged out, but try what I posted above and see if anything changes. I've seen chat boards where a member can choose the time to stay logged in without activity. I don't see where a member can change that on GT. Maybe somebody can show me if it's there.

Hopefully Ray or Mark B will read this thread and get it straightened out. It's got to be frustrating having to jump thru hoops to put up a post.

Thumbs up Re: Dah...what am I doing wrong?

Jib & Others,

Ever since we moved over to the new host; we are very, very satisfied. I personally haven't had one problem since the move. On our end the Board runs like a 1979 Cadillac (new of course!). Check your settings in your User CP. Other than that, the current GT is like the new Camaro SS, incredible!

Jib, thanks for the question.

All that is is the advanced interface. It means What You See Is What You Get.

I have noticed this too, and I think it has to do with the way your machine deals with the cookie it is given by vBulletin.

This happens from time to time on my PC, but NEVER happens on my Mac. I just upgraded to IE 8 on both my PC's and will keep an eye on it and see if it happens more.

Lets see if we can isolate this before we have Ray spend money to troubleshoot an issue that can be solved with a little testing.

I purposely did not upgrade one my my laptops and I am going to watch how it works versus my upgraded PC's.

Ill post more in a couple days...

Chances are, it is the browser you are using and the settings for your cookies, OR you are deleting your History, Cache, Cookies, etc each time you use your browser which many do to cover their tracks when surfing the internet.

If you use Firefox, Go to your Tools, Options, and Privacy Tab. Look for a area labeled as Cookies. Make sure these are set to Accept Cookies From Other Sites and Accept Third Party Cookies (Until they Expire).

If you use Internet Explorer, there should be similar settings.

The two above comments DON'T pertain to those that make it a habit to clear private data as mentioned in the first part of this post, because you are clearing that manually.

Besides that, this is not a forum issue. The cookie settings here allow you to remain logged in I believe until you log out, unless you, your browser, or perhaps another utility such as a spyware, registry cleaner, or virus program removes this data.

Hope this helps.

Thanks gentlemen for your responses.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox 3.0.8 and mine is set to Accept Cookies From Other Sites and Accept Third Party Cookies. I am using BitDefender Antivirus 2008.

I also have the same settings here as Tonk suggested.

I am always getting logged out after a small time period with no activity usually in about 15 minutes. It seems to be less time when composing a post. Also, while composing a post the forum does not recognize it as activity because it logs me out while writing it if I have taken too long. I won't know until I click the submit button if I am still logged in or not.

I do not get logged out on other forums that require a log in until I choose to log out.

Any other suggestions on how to correct this problem if it is on my end?
