Trolls, issues, and the like. PLEASE READ

The recent events today have been very difficult to deal with and fix. I just spent the majority of my day going through 1440 user names and eliminating fake registrations, spam bots, and users that have been registered for trolling purposes. I do not think I deleted any current users, but mistakes do happen. If you have been deleted by mistake, please accept my apologies. If you email me, I will fix the issue for you. More on this later in this message.

First, DO NOT respond to a trolls posts. This just adds fuel to the fire and gives them a reason to continue posting. There is no need to draw attention to everyone that the person is a troll, it most likely is abundantly clear based on the post they make. NEVER respond to a troll, period.

If something crazy is going on, and you do not see that it is being taken care of quickly, you are welcome to send an email to mods@gringos.com and it will be sent to both HonkyTonk and myself. I have an iPhone and get emails almost instantly and can login from my iPhone and deal with issues on the board. I know a couple people called HT today about it. HT is on vacation and not near his phone much. He did authorize me to tell you all he is away for a few days. Send an email to that address or send us a PM. I will probably respond much quicker than HT in most cases.

These problems that are occurring are serious in nature. Harassment of ANY kind of GT has never been something acceptable nor is it something that we take lightly. While the pictures he posted claiming to be HT and myself were somewhat comical, the pictures that were posted saying they were Two Gringos were NOT funny at all.

I’m sorry the forum has been down all day, but it was a necessary evil in this case. When there are people on the forum, it makes it a slower process to do what I needed to do. Taking the forum down was the only option we had in this case.

I dedicated my day to dealing with this and it is not something that I enjoyed doing. We are reviewing server logs and such to deal with this issue further, but for now, this is all we can do. The bogus users have been deleted, at least as many as I could find. He may have some other names registered that I can’t find right now. If that is the case, I will deal with it as issues arise. I believe the user list has been taken down to about 360 people. Honestly, I am tired and don’t feel like sifting through those 360 right at this moment. If more happens later, then I will go ahead and go through the rest. If not, then I will look through them tomorrow in the early morning and edit the list even more than I have.

So, for a recap… do NOT respond to a trolls post. It does NO good but give him more of a reason to post more garbage. When issues arise, send an email to mods@gringos.com and one or both of us will get on the issue and start the cleanup process at that point.
