Default Visitor Message Area

Ray,

I noticed that we can now leave messages to people when visiting their profile page. Are messages that are left there open for membership viewing or are they private?

Speaking of messaging. When sending a PM can I delete the message immediately after sending it to another forum member and have the message arrive to them?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Honky Tonk was kind enough to do a little experimenting and answered my questions.

First off, messages left on someone's profile area ARE visible to everyone that visits it. Secondly, once a PM is sent you can delete it and still have the recipient get it.

Thanks Tonkster!

Tinto -

I am not sure if I understand the question. If there's a problem with people you don't know viewing your PMs then I consider this a serious issue. Send Mark a PM and he'll look into it further, and CC to me.

Ray, the message Tinto's talking about isn't the Private Message feature we all use that are visible only to the sender and recipient. They're just little messages you can send to a member and are visible to that member and anyone else who views that person's profile.

The Private Message feature is secure.

This is what he is refering to: http://www.gringos.com/forum/members/honkytonk/

see the message I left on your profile. PM's cannot be viewed by members. Profile comments can, however that system can be disabled, or I can add text on the profile that reads "All comments are viewable by public".

What ever you like.

Mark, "All comments are viewable by public" might be a good idea. Although we've talked about the mini messages posted in a member's profile being public, most havn't read it.

Tinto, I hope you sent a PM to the person who either sent or received private info in the message box so it can be deleted if desired.

Tonk,

Yes, I gave a head's up to both parties involved. :detective:
I also had to delete personal information left on my own profile for privacy reasons. I think this feature should be disabled or a little warning because I imagine most using that feature probably think it is like sending a PM.

Thanks gentlemen.
