Default What I have learned on GringoTalk....

I have learned a great many things to which I cannot possibly list them all so I will hit the highlights.

I have learned that if you marry a colombian woman you can't stay in colombia because it is dangerous and simply services are an ordeal. I learned you can't bring her back to the states because she will become just like the american women you can't stand. You could marry her and move to another country but I have learned that most other countries don't like colombians.

I have learned that marriage can be a wonderful thing. I have learned that marriage sucks.

I have learned that Mexican women make great wives. I have learned that mexican women are insanely jealous and make terrible wives.

I have learned that agencies provide valuable services but should be avoided like the plague.

I have learned we all like to share information and help each other out but would prefer no other gringo set foot in whatever country, city, village or beach we are visiting. We will share information but not the attention of latin women.

I have learned that Mickey10 is a character.

I have learned that female agency owners get upset when you say they are greedy money grabbers who treat their best customers shabbily(who knew?).

I have learned that female visitors get upset at icons of babies with large penises and fail to see the humor in it(once again, who knew?)

I have learned that the colombian people are some of the nicest people who will ever borrow money from you and never pay it back.

I have learned that the Brazilians are some of the most beautiful people who will scam you out of your money.

I have learned that the philippines are too damned far away.

I have learned that 1 out of 5 latin women are dentists.

I hope you learned that I tend to write tongue in check and am, I don't know, a little sarcastic.

I have learned that some people get it, and some people don't. And the ones that DON'T get it aren't interested in what you have to say anyway.
I have learned that women are women no matter where they are from.
I have learned that this is great. And terrible.
I have learned that I am not the only one. But it sure seems that way sometimes.
I have learned that I don't like being alone all of the time. But I sure need it SOME of the time.
I have learned (confirmed) that marriage seems to be mostly for women, who have the most to gain.
I have learned that women seem to need control more than even they will admit.
But the main thing I have learned is that the huge double standard is alive and well. Women are allowed (and even encouraged) to be women, with all of their bloody moods' illogic and emotions; but men must control THEIR moods, emotions and desires because they are just men, and not much better than a rutting pig in the eyes of the women they support.
Gee, I guess I am not all that ****ent. (sic)

To add to the list:

We all see the world from our own point of view and interpret events through our own prejudices and stereotypes of what we expect others to be to be like.

For every stereotype that exists there is an equal and opposite stereotype applicable to the same group.

No one is really exactly what you expect him/her to be.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Ultimately, it is our own instinctual interpretation of the reproductive imperative that is our unconscious guide in how we conduct our lives. Each of us, men and women alike, wants to make sure his genes are passed on to the next generation and we all act in manners that we believe will aid in that effort; only sometimes we are right, sometimes wrong.

I would say that ruling out living in Colombia is not necessary. Living in any foreign country involves learning how things are done and simple things like paying the electricity bill can be a challenge.

Life is an adventure. I may get killed in my car driving to work tomorrow. Different people have different thresholds of fear. A psychologist at my school once told a group that 80% of the things we worry about never happen. I would move to Colombia in a heartbeat if it weren't for the Philippines.

By the way, the Philippines is just far when you are making the trip. Once you get there, the distance doesn't bother you at all. The Phils is a cross between Asia and LA since it was a Spanish colony for 350 years. The predominant religion is Catholic and the people don't look all that Asia.
