Default Balneário Camboriú

Im planning a move to the south to Balneário Camboriú in SC. Does any one know of a cheap hotel or pousada that I can rent by the week or month while I look for an appartment. Also, are there any gringo expat type hangouts down there?
Thanks,
wombat
Ilheus

Default relocating from bahia to BC, santa catarina

Alex, and gringo colleagues, and anyone from anywhere who would be kind enough to help,

I've been to BC before in 2007, for a week or so, so i know the general layout.

i bought my ticket yesterday and will be arriving in navagantes airport on september 5th.

i would like to stay in a cheap hotel or pousada for a short time, in sept,(can rent a room for a month) until i can find rent a low-end , cheap kitchenette, or 1 bedroom apt for me, but want one that can have 2 people allowed to live there, in case a lady moves in with me or a friend comes to visit.
i do not need a beach front place, but i would like to keep the rent down- 450-500 reals / month, if possible or 600, modest priced, near a supermarket, not too far off the beach near transportation and a post office, on the first or 2nd floor- at least this is my wish list. the supermarket BIG is in a convenient area, I am told, but hear that there are various supermarkets.

i'm not moving down there to lay out on the beach, my skin wont take it and i am semi retired, but will want to teach some english, help with translations, editing and have some other things to do to bring in a few extra bucks. If it works out for me i will put down for a while and stay long-term in BC or in the general area in santa catarina, have worked in porto allegre before and not completely new to the south.

my intention is to get down there before high season starts and rent an apartment on a 1 year contract, or a 6 month contract, something like that.-no tourist apartments nor tourist prices for me!
as far as gringo bars as expate hangouts to trade our war stories, it would be nice to know if there were other north americans or europeans etc around the area.
my e mail is on my website: oceansun.com or can communicate with me through this blog for now.
thanks, would appreciate any help, cheers,
wombat

CB has a lot of kids ... It's like a College town in the US. Not much to do. I would not move there, if I were you. Floripa much better. Good luck amigo.

good point, your not the first person that said that,
i was there around 86 in the old days. i spent 4 months in BC,sep to dec last year. .the cit y has about, 100 thousnd people but swells to over a million for a few months. druing and before this time prices are raised everywhere- supermarkets, bars, everthing to rip off the tourist- too bad 20%. hotels, pousadas.
. i mentioned that itajai is more of a normal city- or what is normal in brazil?
