Cool Canadian buddy in Sao Paulo... very lonely!

Hi Guys,

My good buddy is in Sao Paulo and is doing absolutely nothing because he has been told it is not safe at night etc. etc. He is working very hard but is looking for a little fun at night. The fellow workers there even tell him to take a cab from the office to the hotel at night because it is not safe to walk the 1/4 mile. Not sure what to tell him or where to send him. Anybody got some advice or ideas?

Thanks,

MM

Perhaps you could give us a little more detail. What exact neighborhood is he in? Are his coworkers locals, or foreigners? Does he speak any Portuguese? What kind of fun is he looking for? (Just a hint will suffice, if the answer to that last question exceeds a PG rating.) I've walked around Bairro Liberdade, the Asian neighborhood, after dark with no problem, and it seems like a neighborhood that would house a branch of a multinational would tend to be safer than most.

MM, I´m certainly no expert on SP but what I do know is it´s one huge megatropolis and 2nd or 3rd in the world in population behind Mexcio City, It´s cold, crowded, overcast most days and the people are not very outgoing to Gringos. However taking a cab is safe, I have walked downtown numerous times and never had a problem, during the day that is. For a relaxing evening, I suggest Cafe Photo, located downtown.
