EJG -

Welcome to the board. Most countries with high unemployment generally do not allow foreigners to work without very special requirements. To really find the correct answer to your question go to each countries Consulate website and there you can find current requirements.

If it is for Brasil, that means it is for Brasil only. Being able to legally work in any third world county is extremely rare for foreigners.

I thought it was like Euros, good in any other country in the region? My phone works in Ecuador, isn't it the same for my visa?

Thanks for the replies. I thought that there was maybe some form of labor agreement under Merscosul. In the early 90's I was able to work in Canada under Nafta (I am a us pass holder) I realize that Canada is not SA but Chile and Mexico are part of Nafta.
These things are always changing so thought I would ask.
What initially brought me to this question was Colombia. I lived in Brazil for 5 years and loved it.... from what you guys have talked about here Colombia sounds very similar and possibly even better. I was hoping to leapfrog the visa ordeal with my Brasilian cedula but that may not be the case.
Thanks again

To each his own, and it depends where you lived and your personal experiences. I personally like Colombia, and think it's less bureaucracy and more secure.

I found it very easy to get a Pensionado Visa. This does not allow me to seek employment.

KT,

You keep forgetting the daily muggings, kidnappings, turnip shaped women, hot muggy rainy weather as well as the pollution and lousy food. Best give a complete picture for any would be visitors or expats.

EJ,

I'd be all ears if you shared your experiences in Brasil with the forum. Why are you considering moving to another country?

FWIW, I would imagine that if you received a Brasilian cedula it wouldn't be too hard applying for other Latin countries.

BTW, this might be of interest to the forum. I was going to place this link in a separate thread but here is as good a place as any:

Christ, give it a break. The place SUCKS, OK? As anyone will see if they come here to have a look around. And really, who would waste the time and money?

And I'm far less worried about being mugged than I am that one of these elephants tottering around in high heels and skin tight pants will overbalance and fall on me with their HUGE rear ends. I mean, they look UN-natural.

It's true that Avenida Circunvalar, the best place in the city, with sidewalk cafes and such, is constantly traversed by buses and large trucks, blowing spumes of black smoke. Not to mention the scavengers that gravitate there from the nether regions of the city to beg.

I think it's actually a sport for people driving to try to run over pedestrians in crosswalks, laughing as their targets scurry out of the way. I've actually seen drivers change direction to make a turn they didn't want, just because someone was in the crosswalk.

Anyone wanting to visit Colombia, or visit other cities here, should avoid Pereira. No, no, you wouldn't like it here at all. Better to go to Medellin or Cartagena, where it's CIVILIZED.

I think I'm going to change my signature to:

El M-tero
