Question Vitoria and Maceio?

Gentlemen -

Does anyone know about Vitoria - the capital of Espirito Santos.

....And Maceio in the state of Alagoas, north of Vitoria?

I can help you a bit with Vitoria, but it's been years since I've been there. What I do remember is a pretty modern city, great beaches, a major University right up the road from downtown (University of Espirito Santo, I think), a lot of tech/engineering firms (our naval architecture firm was from Vitoria), and I think you'll probably find a pretty diverse cross section of people. Not as blond and blue-eyed as Santa Catarina, not as Afro-American as Salvador, and not as Hispanic/Indian as the North of say Natal or Fortaleza.

It is a pretty big port, as it's a load out point for a lot of ore. For the most part, it was a pretty clean city...a long road that runs right down the Costeira, and the beaches aren't as snooty as Ipa. Kind of like the difference between South Beach, and Lauderdale. Nothing wrong with Lauderdale, but it just doesn't have the "name". Good sights at the beach, as with anywhere in O'Brasil.

From what I recall, real estate was more moderately priced here than most other large(r) cities in Brasil, but I'm not sure that that would still be the case today.

Two other larger cities in the area are Vila Velha, and Tiburao. Don't know much about either, but they are a short ride.

Hope that helps...

I have not been to Vitória, but I have been to Macieó a couple of times. Maceió is really nice if you are in the Punta Verde area or within a couple of blocks of the beach, but further in than that you start to run into the Northeast poverty, which can be a little shocking. It's nice for a vacation if you stay at a good place, and the Salinhas de Maragogi are spectacular.

Excellent....

Bahia {almost} to Belem and never looked back. The northeast is viable but with minor drawbacks. Other than breaking into the infamous Groups, mostly in the south (and that is almost impossible), the reliablility factor and the 'Bank' issue. All is viable.

I live 300 km's south of Maceio. It has some nice beachfront hotels and the ocean and beaches are the most beautiful in all of Brazil!

Bueller is right, me thinks. My mom's family is from Alagoas, and I have lots of family there. Half of the people there are in Maceió, which is pretty ok, not the most spectacular place in the whole wide world, but pretty nice. Maragogi is my favorite place there. The rest of the family I have there live in Palmeira dos Índios... which is basically a place with not much of anything, full of dirt, very poor, and hot and stuffy. I remember being shocked because I saw a TV on a plastic chair in the middle of a praça (the first time I went there I was 18 - most of the family there is in Maceió). The only really good thing about it is my aunt's cooking.
