Big E,

Interesting and good trip report. Ah, the life of a airline pilot! Glad you had a good time with that Porteņa.

You know, I have to give a dissenting voice concerning the typical view that the people from Argentina, in particular Buenos Aires, are snobbish, not very friendly and unhelpful. I have visited the city twice now and was befriended by one particular lady who was super helpful to me both trips. Her whole family warmed up to me along with her friends and I was treated like one of their own. I think that some of this view from other Latin American countries looking down on Porteņas comes from their belief that Argentine Spanish is superior.

Just the other day I ran across a young couple from BsAs that are on a SA and NA trek in their little 1970 Citroen C3. They parked their funky little 2 cylinder car right behind Juan Carlos and his java dispensing Willy's jeep selling all sorts of handmade jewelry and trinkets. I wasn't interested in their wares but couldn't help but not admire their car. It looked all original and very well maintained. I went up and introduced myself to these two Porteņos and had a nice chat with them. They told me a little about their trip and how they hope to eventually make it to Alaska in that little buggy! When I complimented him on his car he told me that a SA dealership decided to completely refurbish it like it was new all for free. I went back a few days later in hopes to see them again and noticed they were gone. I asked my favorite coffee provider if he knew their whereabouts and he said they went to Medellin. I expressed my disappointment and commented that they were cool people and Juan said with some obvious disdain, "Yeah, for Argentines". I kept quiet but noted yet another example of prejudice.

BTW, if anyone wants to look at their Citroen and read about their travels they have a well written (with lots of good photos) and interesting blog written in Spanish of course:

Big E = Speedy Gonzales!

You busted me! I noticed that your TR was written a while back after my post about your present novia but you read it before my edit and made a comment.

I really enjoyed Argentina. I went to Mendoza also and wrote a TR here. I especially liked Patagonia. If you get a chance to visit that area be sure to check out San Martin de los Andes.

Here is a photo of the adorned 1970 Citroen C3 I mentioned above. I love little cars like that, my first car being a 1959 Hillman 2 door "station wagon" and a few years later upgraded to a 1959 Volvo. How many remember the Henry J's?

It is one of the famous place for traveller. Buenos Aires, the capital, is the center of the country in all ways except its geographical location. Hikers can sample the stunning scenery of the lush Lake District. Iguazu Falls is one of the greatest wonders of nature in the world.
