Question Whatever happened to me?

A question my poor parents asked repeatedly for over 40 years. Tonk is right, just living and loving life here in Panama would be the answer.

The new house will be completed some time next week. We jumped the gun on moving in. In fact it was premature by about two weeks. I thought that this could be a problem, however, in my advanced years; I have learned not to argue with a Colombiana. Learned YES I did….the trick now is to remember that lesson. H-m-m-m-m.

Need I say that she was excited to get out of ‘Gringoville’ and move to the finca. As more and more families move into the addition from other countries, many of the families are Spanish speaking, our apparent ‘reason’ to move has been somewhat mitigated. Of course that is MY opinion…but what do I know? Marry a mountain gal and off to the mountains you go. Dah!

Truth be know, the Mrs. is much more excited about this move than she was about moving into her first, let alone new, house. She also asked me a favor. Was it really necessary to build a larger house after we finished the small house? Said the decision was hers. Answer NO! Talk about down sizing. We will be living in a two bedroom, one bath, finca less than 100 square meters in size. Interesting woman! Good thing I lived on a boat for a while so the adjustment factor to small is better will not be too traumatic for me.

We have planted another 40 coffee plants. The first 40 having faced the ravages of the weed cutter. The guy who does our plant maintenance is excellent with respect to quantity and quality of his work. The problem exists with his memory. He has a brain tumor and memory is not one of his strong points. Seems he forgot where he planted the first 40 coffee plants and/or he was making such good progress with cutting the grass that he did not want to slow down and cut around the coffee plants. Therefore, a need for the additional 40 plants.

Building a house this time was….how should I put it…..easy….there I said it. Only two ‘problems’ and those were minimal. Took over four months for the electrical company to connect power to our house. However, the difficulty was understandable as they had to run the line all the way from the other side of the road…..a distance of 7.5 meters. This Herculean task was accomplished by advanced planning and superior supervision. As a matter of fact there were 7 inspections of the work to be done PRIOR to anyone actually doing any work at all. God I love this place!

The second was the kitchen cabinets. We ‘hired’ the brother of our daughters’ school teacher. Not one of our better ideas. Enough said! Other than those two glitches….easy pickins.

However even paradise can have its’ problems, the village of Boquete, Panama is experiencing flooding. The worst since 1970. Two deaths and over 300 families have had to evacuate. Unfortunately, the rain is expected to continue for another 3 days.

Capt Jib,

You have great timing, I wondered what happened to Jib and a few hours later you chimed in. Living and loving life in Panama, man that sounds great.
