Question Re: Chavez to retrieve hostages in Colombia

Can Chavez Really Make Peace With Narcoterrorists?
¿De verdad puede Chávez lograr la paz con narcoterroristas?

December 27, 2007 (LPAC)--Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called a press conference yesterday morning, to announce that his government had worked out elaborate arrangements with the Colombian narcoterrorist FARC--which is the country's leading cocaine cartel--for the imminent release of two women hostages and a child born in captivity, should the Colombian government accept, which it quickly did. Venezuelan Vice Foreign Minister Rodolfo Sanz proudly announced today that the timing of the release "is the exclusive competence and authority of President Hugo Chavez."

The operation is being staged in grandstand fashion, with Chavez suggesting that the next step should be the opening of "peace talks" with the FARC--with himself at the center. As welcome as the release of any of the hostages held in their jungle concentration camps is, the Chavez-FARC operation functions, at the very least, as a distraction and an attempt to change the region's agenda, away from the urgent task of replacing the global financial system. At worst, it will play into the long-standing British policy of legitimizing and granting de facto recognition to the FARC cartel, destabilizing Colombia itself, and becoming a major step in the direction of national and regional disintegration.

The scheme, as announced, is that a Venezuelan transport airplane and two helicopters, painted with Red Cross insignia for the occasion, will fly representatives of the Red Cross and seven countries serving as "guarantors," plus media, into Villavicencio, Colombia. There, the FARC is to provide the helicopter pilots with coordinates of where in the jungle the hostages are to be released. They are then to be flown to Venezuela, to be received by Chavez, personally.

The guarantors for the operation now assembling in Caracas, are former Argentine President Nestor Kirchner; a top aide of Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Marco Aurelio Garcia; Bolivia's Vice Minister of Coordination with Social Movements, Sacha Llorenti; a former minister sent by Ecuador's Rafael Correa; the Ambassadors of France and Cuba to Venezuela; and a former Interior Minister of Venezuela. One representative of the Colombian government will join them.

To be released are Clara Rojas, a Vice Presidential candidate kidnapped in February 2002 along with her Presidential running mate, French-Colombian Ingrid Betancourt; Rojas's three year old son; and former Senator Consuelo Gonzalez de Perdomo, held since September 2001. Dozens of other hostages are held by the FARC.

Yugo Chavez that fat assed egocentric *******; grandstanding on this one is an understatement. He gets more TV air time than Brad Pitt and Angie Jole, or whatever her name is. The FARC and their ELN counterparts are NOTHING more than drug running, kidnapping, extortionist, thugs. If Micky were king I would give them 30 days to lay down the gats and get back on the farm. All remaining idiots solo option is a little piece of lead in the cranium cortex. Scum sucking thugs and they have Yugo on the end of their Johnson

Looks like the FARC could not produce all the hostages. Deal is off, unfortunately this is a tragedy! Although I hate to see a guy like Chavez go down twice in the last month! One with the Elections and one with this!
But in all honesty at this point I could care less who gets thes poor people out of captivity! Chavez, Hitler who cares! Get them out!!!!!!

LL -

I do agree with you in that who cares who it is that could get people released from the FARC. I was just making the point that to some degree that Yugo and the FARC are in bed together. And that the FARC is nothing more than mafia in uniform. Since they are on the news everyday here all I can say is that they are a gang of VERY sick assholes. They kidnap people, keep them 1 year > 9 plus years and then KILL them!? They are not human, and in my opinion, as wrong as I may be, every last one of them needs their heads lopped off.

Unhappy Re: Chavez to retrieve hostages in Colombia

I didn't really want to jump in this conversation before because I think this is just propaganda and maybe I'm wrong but it's remind me a bit of FIDEL's beginning with not lot of success and lot of luck!!
Let me explain!
Here we have the spiritual son of CASTRO dealing and finally showing to the face of the world that he could be a big player where BIG nations failed ...How did he do to get this deal anyway with the FARC??
I do feel strong compassion for the hostages and do believe strongly that they are supposed to be released ASAP without even dealing and I would be even more arrogant saying that we do give too much light to those assholes of FARC or any other trafficants...After all this years, don't you think anyone knows where they are located? I still think it is a political game as always unfortunately and it is really sad.
Now this young kid borned from a union of an hostage and a guerillero was wanted or she was rapped? Why do they release her who got a baby while in captivity and not Mrs Betancour??
Sorry guys but I don't buy it!! And seeing this clown without brain leading the negociations and feeling as the god on earth make me sick....!!!
Just my
