LL this is some heavy **** and the posts are ringing with anger and outrage. The FARC have been around long enough for them to have children and grandchildren brainwashed in their environment. I wonder what was the purpose of the person who put all this together, to inform or to glorify.

AIRTO,did you mean the video or the FARC, when you ask what the purpose of the person was who put this together????
I am glad at least a couple of guys have looked at the video. I feel it very important that people understand the culture and the how and whys! Colombia is vast and deep in culture and ideals!
The funny thing is I never here of people on the board here speak of or know of people or friends and family of people who have been kidnapped!
I do remember Lost again having to pay off, I think it was the ELN!!
I have met one girl who's sister was kidnapped and murdered by the Farc, she was only 15. THey were on a family vacation together, this happend 6 years ago, about 40 kilometeres outside of BOGOTA!
I have another friend of my last calena novia, who his brother and father were both kidnapped at separate times about 4 years ago. The family was extorted for thousands of U.S. dollars, and the prisoners were never released, they were than extorted again a year later for the same prisoners,( dad and brother ), and again they were not released! Now these were not rich Colombians, but they were doing good! They were contacted a third time, but they never responded to extortionistic farc! They still do not know if there brother and father are alive they have never seen proof of the existance since before the first extorion from the FARC!
LL,
Bro this link is excellent and YES it will be a good thing that everybody take a look at it!! Luckily or unfortunately I don't know anybody who have or had a family member kidnapped by this FARTS oups I mean FARC
Great links and make think!!!
I was referring to the Video collection because some of those who posted under the videos was very angry. If the intent was to inform than I don't have a problem with it but if it was meant to glorify then I can understand the anger.
I have seen that arm band before but I don't remember where.
How many opposition groups like that exist in Colombia? I understand the FARC has been around for 40 over forty years, what is the government doing about it outside of refusing prisoner exchanges? Colombia does have special forces, right?
40 years is long enough to have an effect on the psyche of the people, I don't if anyone has ever counted but there could be large number of people who have know someone who has disappeared or have had a relative who has disappeared. I guess I could find out some of this information, it would be good to know considering anybody here could unknowingly hook up with a lady with ties to one of these groups.

Great video LL!
One part of that video reminded me of the harsh reality of working here. The part about the car bombing in Villavicencio! I was there when it happened. A taxi drove up to the army base, and the taxi exploded! It's still unclear to why the taxi driver didn't exit and then remotely explode the bomb. Some say he sacrificed his life with a promise from the farc that they will always take care of his family. Even if he had left the car there, that in itself would have drew attention! A parked taxi, in front of a base, those guards would have been all over him before he could break into a sprint. I know that area and they havestrategically placed guards alone side that street. Villavicencio was long seen as a neutral ground between the colombian military and farc. Then you had this car bombing in '06.
Colombia has special forces, but you have to understand that the jungles are vast and the farc are always on the move. The farc doesn't mean just a bunch of soldiers kidnapping people and holding them for ransom in the jungle. Also, the same people who are tying to overthrow the country. The farc is wooven deep into the fabric of colombia. From maybe that little kid you see everyday while leaving your hotel...watcing your DAILY routine... to congressmen...to the women behind the counter and the bank! My friends tell when they're at work or at school. They don't mention the word farc, because you never know if you're sitting next to one.
One of my closest friend's brother in-law was napped by the farc maybe over 7-8 years ago. They couldn't make the randsom! Never heard from him again. I was surprised to see her in Oct. at a party! She never used to go out! Poor girl, I guess she finally let go. I had another friend after a botched-up attempt to napp him when he was 15 in bogota. His family fled to the States. Colombia along with the U.S. are really trying. I can't get into details, but it's so much corruption in this country. One step forward ALWAYS results in a half-step back. Yes, it's progress but slow. I'm not saying come here paranoid, enjoy yourself, but always check your six!
Hello All, It's disturbing. I have watched it, and have viewed it again showing it to friends. What can I say but watch your back. Check out the June 2004 National Geographic, a profile of Caqueta, a remote southern province of Colombia,an economy built on cocaine. It's a FARC fiefdom. In closing, Hola TFWM, Thanks for your views&observations on Baq. I will be there from April 1 -14.If you're in town,I'll buy the first round.Hasta la Proxima
I hope you will better understand how Colombians view life in general...living with constant violence brought on by Drug Cartels, anti-Govt guerrillas, and common street criminals...you will see the positive enthusiasm of how Colombian's enjoy everyday life through their music and celebration.
