Default An Itty Bitty Tidbit on Colombia

Being a practicing collector of the mundane, I was in search of other another piece of useless information I had been asked for and came across this little gem.

“The police were conducting a raid at (an)…apartment building near by. Months later, when it was all sorted out, it was revealed that the new special forces unit had been hired by a rich Bogota emerald and drug dealer to assassinate a rival and make it look like a government operation. The plan had backfired because the primary target of the hit had crawled through the ceiling and escaped. Every other person in the suite had been killed. In the ensuing scandal it had been disbanded, its leadership fired.” ‘The Killing of Pablo – The Hunt for the World’s Greatest Outlaw’ by Mark Bowden (pg. 132)

Questions that come to mind:
  • How can any “rule of law” exist when ALMOST everything is for sale?
  • Wonder if “the boys’ above, had ‘other’ activities prior to being found out?
  • Where do you advertise these services? “HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL.”
  • Big deal, individuals were ‘fired’. In LA that means reassigned! Does 'disbanded' mean given another name?
  • How can loyalty be rewarded to a government and ideals, when the drug industry can pay the equivalent of 2 to 3 years military salary for one ‘little job’.

Capn'n think of it as just a little extra work on the side, moonlighting, if you will. Kinda' like the local cop taking a side job as a security guard for a dance.

You're right of course. I just have to loosen up a bit with my value system.

Once while speaking before an audience on, of all things, ethics I said "Before you is what would have been an extremely wealthy man, but for being handicapped with a slight tinge of honesty.”

Where in the hell did I go RIGHT?
