This Monday there will be a March here in Medellin (as well as many other cities here AND worldwide). Dora and I will participate and I will make a report on how it all goes. It seems that that the average Colombian is absolutely fed up with the FARC and ELN. I am not sure, but with my very limited understanding, I think that with Uribe's leadership there is great hope that this vile chapter will be closed before he leaves office. Me saying that, by and large, these people have GREAT heart and soul is a huge understatement.
Be careful mi amigo! But It is nice to see the hippie protester coming out again!. Here is a great link, I hope you all get millions in the streets down there!
I don't know how cold it gets in the Jungle at night.. but you'd think they could use some high tech infa-red camera and figure out exactly where these jokers are hiding. But on the other hand... they haven't found Bigfoot.. and that one big heap of heat generating tissue.
Mickey.. don't forget to prepare your " GRINGOS HATE THE FARC TOO"
sign... just try to avoid the camera men.
I'm sorry to be so cynical but it is going to take much more to eliminate the FARC & ELN than a feel good march. For sure its a start but it will take some real pressure and accountability on the leaders and government to get rid of the many years of dug in trenches. With Uribe's alleged complicity with these groups, I doubt seriously if these guys will ever be eliminated. As long as there is such a large drug production in Colombia and for the most part, an apathetic society, you will have these groups.
On the brighter side, I sure saw lots of pretty Paisas marching today.
Good thing MICKY but ten cuidado hermano!!!
In the news I heard the FARC will release 3 others hostages to thank the efforts made by Hugo CHAVEZ !!!
All this is a joke and yes as TINTO said it will take more than a march!!! Uribe at least is on the right track for that...will he succeed completely before to leave the house ??? don't know

Funny thing is this is really the first real protest, I have heard of!! In 40 years?? I think they hava all been to scared to say anything! it is good to see them spealing out though!
Of course you are cynical how could you not be! 40 years of a civil war!
Although, it is always a good sign to see the people coming together on these battlefronts! I read the other day Uribe was at 70-80% approval rate, and this year the unemployement at an all time low!!!!(10-11%, still twice ours)
Bad news for the old guys is when the FARC and the ELN are gone the , the gringo will be nothing more than they are here! The appeall of "the grass being greener over here will dissipate" and once the Colombians figure out that there country might be as equally beautiful and there people equally educated and intelligent, they won't want to leave!!!!
I went down to el centro and Alpajurra plaza and joined my brothers and sisters. I am just guessing, but the crowd there was probably 200 - 300 thousand. They also had seperate marches in Envigado, Sabaneta and Itaqui. I may have a distorted view, since Uribe is from here, maybe his fellow Paisas hold him in higher regard than the rest of the country, I do not
know. I will say that people, in general, do think that he is the best president that they have ever had. And for absolute certain the man is WAY, WAY too smart for that **** bag Chavez. Uribe gets out and among the people very often. It seems as though he is always having a outdoor meeting with people all over the country. I do not blame Tinto for his being cynical, as LL said, 40 years of somewhat the same bull****, what else would you think. But I believe that there is wind of change blowing here, and personally, I have great hope that this is the start of steps to the action needed to put things right. This is the FIRST mass demonstration EVER here, I think that maybe that is a indication of the kind of fear that the people have lived with for sooooo long. I also believe that help is really needed from the U. S.. Being that I am not in the loop, hopefully, maybe some good things are going on behind closed doors. But a little tech help and some special training would go a long way to help the Colombians put and end to the FARC / ELN chapter. I will send Tinto a PM and see if he will post a link here to some of the fotos from the marches here. I did see footage tonight from Bogata and I would say that from the several different locations where they had gatherings, there had to be a MILLION people that participated there. Well that is all, and if you pray, send one for Colombia.
Love - Micky
P. S. - It has taken four months, but my fellow Paisas are finally dressing like me.
