Default No 3rd Term For URIBE

Looks like its the end of a great presidency. The high courts of colombia have ruled that he cannot seek a 3rd term. I think he will go down as one of the best ever presidents in colombia and one of the biggrest players in LAM. From what I have seen colombia has really blossomed in the past 8 years...

I have asked this question

Does Uribe deserve a third term....

to just about everyone I ve talked with at length in Colombia...from a 30 minute conversation with a taxi driver to first dates with women to lovers. and in general, there is less enthusiasm for Uribe then there was when I arrived here.

And when people ask me for my opinion...I preface it with....of course I m an American with American ideas aobut democracy. And the fundamental rule of democracy...is that no leader is indispensable.

Uribe is very sharp, I love watching him on TV. I m a student of history and in some ways he reminds me of an American president Woodrow Wilson.

This is a test for Uribe and for Colombia, whether he can actually step away and for Colombia as a nation and a people. whether they can consolidate the gains that they have made in a post Uribe era.

I have not been following the political landscape in Colombia closely, but I thought there was popular support within Colombia for a third Uribe term. Perhaps I am mistaken. As an outsider looking in, it seems to me that Colombia has made tremendous progress in the past eight years. I think Uribe and his policies were very influential in that success. However, I think it will serve Colombia well if he only serves two terms. The constitution was already amended once to allow Uribe to run for a second term. Colombia's political, economic, and security progress will be much more solid if that progress can continue under a new president. One president serving for twelve years starts to look more like an autocracy than a democracy.

Personally I would rather live under a loving, benevolent dictator, than a spineless idiot that happens to come along....

This does not include Daniel Ortega or Hugo Chavez or who is that cornhole in Cuba now...

Ahhh, Castro....

Popular Vote, and I don't mean getting votes out of the grave yards.....

If a CEO is doing a good job......

Why replace him?, it don't make no since to me.....
