Thumbs up Obama signs order to close Guantanamo Bay facility

Good night everyone!

I just came accross this article on CNN and guess that most of us are aware of this... I just wanted to discuss about it with all of you now..It looks like Mr Obama is respecting his words and hope to hear maybe soon that this damned EMBARGO on Cuba will be removed too or should I keep dreaming ?? I do think it is in the process..What do you think?
Now does it means that closing this prison on Guantanamo Bay, Mr Obama will shortened the "lease" that USA have with this cuban portion of land or is it just about the facility??
Anyways jump in gents
cheers

cuba :d

Good question. I really doubt the embargo is going to go away anytime soon,.. I think he will lift restrricitions on family visitiing and sending money!!

I think it would be just fine to lift the embargo, but doubt it will happen without one of the castro brothers making some serious changes!

ANyways, one step at a time my brother!

At least he is doing the one step!! You know there is something interesting though in what you are saying LL; Castro's brothers are not stupid and I think now that they finally realize that it was time for some changes or is it just the aging process of EL MAXIMO ..Anyways..I think that if at least the money transfer and visiting rules changes, we may possibly see the first US president landing in CUBA at Josee Marti airport for some talking as they do have more interests to do some changes than you think ..Tengo fe..I may be a dreamer or idealist but hey, that is how we go far

I think it will be MANY years before we see the embargo lifted. In fact, I hope it is many years. I like going to Cuba, and once the embargo is lifted and Americans can vacation there... two things will happen.

1. The costs of everything there will sky rocket!
2. It will become just another destination that Americans travel and wear their welcome out.

The Italians are not really welcomed in many parts of Cuba with open arms. If it weren't for their money, I think people would turn them away. They come there for women and alcohol and act like fools.

I hope that embargo stays in place. Its one of the few places in the world that I can vacation that stays pretty much the same each time I have gone, aside from Greece and Israel.

Big E - We are very much in agreement as to your thoughts of the embargo being lifted. The little that I've traveled to Havana, I like it the way it is, not the way it would become with everyone and their brother floating across the Straits of Florida to visit.

Cuba - R! - Gracias por tus palabras hermano!!! Sabes que solo quiero lo mejor para su lindo pais...pero tambien no quiero que Cuba quede un quilombo. Despacio...

That being said though, I would not put it past Raul to reach out to Barack, and maybe start "discussing" things. Not that Barack supports Raul and Fidel in their policies, but the opportunity is there for them to reach out at this particular point in history.

Let's see what happens...:detective:

When Fidel takes his last breath, the embargo will be history. From what I understand Raul favors the China style of communism. In other words; be a communist but, make a few bucks.

Its been a long time since I have posted here gringos. I hope that the only reason you guys are so pumped up about Obama isn't the possibility of him making Cuba more accessible. Never forget that Castro is a communist and that Obama is not very keen on making Colombia a favored nation. Actually, there are leftist dems aiding farc in an effort to overturn Uribe and install a socialist government in Colombia. They want to make Colombia suffer as they want to make the US suffer. So be careful what you wish for! You just might get it!
