Of possible interest.

Due to some of my strange study habits on Latin America (delving in to the dark side so as to better understand the bright side), the Mrs. suggested viewing the movie/documentary “La noche de los lápices”.

The movie is in Spanish and for such a serious matter almost seems too youthful to be of value. Almost that is.... it certainly was an eye opener for me. The kidnappings started at the beginning of ‘the Dirty War’ (Guerra Sucia</SPAN>) in Argentina. All this takes place in the 1970’s.

This was one of Latin America’s best examples of inter-country cooperation primarily under the Operation Condor program between Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Brazil. When a leftist or someone who did not support the right wing military dictatorships, was arrested, and that arrest could prove to be embarrassing, they were often flown to another ‘member’ country. Plausible deniability and all that. Maybe the first example of rendition flights.

If the individual did not accidentally fall out of the aircraft in route, torture was the most likely outcome….and of course the eventual confessions.
