Sr. Dickwad is at it again, pressing even harder than is his 'normal' wacky ****. There have been some killings along the border and Friday he order the military to send 15,000 troops to the border region. Last night/yesterday, on his 'el presidente' TV show he is talking about the country preparing for war with Colombia. Talking with two of my brothers yesterday (before the news of his TV show) they were saying how the average Colombian just laughs at Chavez and do not take him seriously, because he is such the ****ing idiot. I told them they had better start to take him seriously, he is an extremely dangerous and crazy problem child. Things in Venezuela are very ****ed up (big shortages, food, water, energy; not to mention the crime) and it is easier to start **** with Colombia than take care of the growing problems in his country. I do not know what will happen, but I do know this guy is a time bomb and can go off at any time.
I was reading about this very subject while waiting for my plane in miami. I was actually going to call you about it. There is a lot at stake in that region if it comes to any kind of shooting war.
We do not know what kind of politics are being played on the back end. You have to remember that to Russia and China having that region destabalize actually helps their long term strategy there.
It is no secret that especially china is trying to exert their influence in the region more now. They are trying to gain a foot hold in latin america. It would not be surprising to find out they are backing this prick finacially. It serves their goals to have Chavez in conflict with Colombia.
Then again it also serves the US interest partially to have them in conflict because surely it will strengthen their case for the military bases. But ultimately having instability in that region will allow the drug trade to thrive again. Which is something not in the best interests for either US or Colombia.
It was also go to killing the tourist trade there. Just by Chavez saying what he did would cause any country to issue a travel advisory. This will hurt Colombias tourist trade. Just when thigs are starting to improve.
I agree with Micky... Chavez is a ****ing idiot who has no real long term viabilty... and yes no one is going to take him seriously... but Like Micky said he is a ****ing idiot with enough miltary personel and hardware to destabalize the region for a time. Now that would be a disaster financially to Colombia if that happened. It would undue years of progress with tourism and trade overnight if it came to any kind of shooting war.
It doesn't help that our current leadership sends the unmistakable message that for better treatment from us it's better to be our enemy than our friend.
I sincerely believe that Hugo Chavez realizes the United States would never sit idly by and allow him to take military action against Colombia without us interfering. This within itself makes his bark a lot more dangerous than his bite.
He's bluffing. It's a distraction because his system of government is failing. At least Hitler was smart enough to fix his country's problems before asking his people to die for it.
I wish I knew he is bluffing. BenJ, the thing with this egocentric maniac is he is NEVER going away. Nothing matters but his own view of himself, he can do no wrong, ergo, there will never be a 'reason' for him to step aside. If it gets to the point where the opposition can muster enough power, he will turn on them. Nothing good can happen without 'himself' being the cause of the action. Someone, sometime, somewhere will have to put one in this guys melon, that is the ONLY way he will ever stop his his constant shenanigans.

Tinto, I have no doubt that many want Chavez dead, but Al Jazeera getting the scoop when?
Tonk Sez: Chavez is once again rattling sabres, like he did when Colombia took out Raśl Reyes in Ecuador. Oops!
I could be wrong and the GT members living in Colombia are more aware of the tension than I am. Chavez does this sh*t from time to time just...because. He doesn't need a reason. If he does start something? He'll regret it!
Maybe he can get some of the DiaperHead Al Jazeera loving terrorists to help him. They won't be too hard to spot in Colombia:

Every Sunday good ole Chavez blabs on and on and gets himself in a freinze I have watched a couple of his goings on. He is out there that is for sure..
I got an email with the taped version from a friend about this.. If he really wanted to go to war or had half the brain he doesnt have, he wouldnt be saying **** like that..
Tinto did you see where that article came from, it is all chavez propaganda!
First of all Venezuela has no good fighting expereince colombia would kick its ass, unfortuantely Ecuador might step in. Secondly Chavez is losing popularity ..
Here is the Scary thing, since he will go down in history as the man who ruined venezuela and its economy, he might PULL a BUSH maneauver and start a war just because like some of you have said it would distract the venezuelanos from seeing how ****ed up it really is there..
I get his 'saber rattling', and I agree, to a point. My thinking about the egocentric madman is that when the point is reached, about the condition of Venezuela, where his rope is very short, he will do ANYTHING not to take the blame for the mess. It will come to the point of being removed, by his own (violently). Being removed by vote, for the opposition. I just think that he is TOO crazy and would plunge his country into war before he would accept the humiliation of the former events happening. And do not dog out Tinto, El Jizzera is the only place I turn for the inside scoop, well, and People magazine.
