Well,
I don't know much about her. But from what I know, watching interviews, reading part of her book and seeing her on Larry King. I may vote for her. If she was running for office. Why do you ask?

I don't want to throw my 2 cents in yet, wix. Its just a poll.

But I would really like to know how this one polls out, She made her first visit to colombia today since being kidnapped!

Here is a foto of her with uribe, there are 3 others so you can click thru to see them.

Here is a foto?? Just to remind you all of who she is..

LL,

I watch some of La Marcha por la vida y la libertad in several Colombian cities on friday. I have Caracol at home. While that was going on they switched to Espaņa were Ingrid Bettencourt was speaking. She has not forgotten Colombia and I think she has a plan. There is still much I do not know about her but if I was to take the poll at this time I would say "From what I know she spent a lot of time in captivity and still is dedicated to colombia?".

Why did the FARC kidnap her, and Why so much a focus on her capivity?, this is my question.

The reason I bring this up, is I have asked some friends of mine (colombianos) what they think, and although they feel for her pain and loss during the captivity.

I am getting mixed feelings about how they feel about her now . I am curious on how you all feel about her. I not sure how many of you pay attention to the news there like I do, I too have caracol and my daily news consists of latin america, colombia the world, usa and business inn that order.

WIX, I caught the march too, it was nothing compared to the one last spring..

BTW, you all can literally vote in confidence, this poll above will not reveal who you voted for.. We haven't done a poll in a long time, i thought this would be good for us, but we can still post comments whatever you want to share.

Sorry LL, I can't answer any of your poll questions accurately.

I remember well her march into guerrilla territory with film crews in tow. I also remember nice roads; stripes--well paved and all. What lies ahead? I just knew she was about to go on an extended camping trip. Stupid? Yup! Idealistic? Yup! Realistic? No!. Ignorant? I hope not....but she sure didn't have a clue what the FARC was all about, that's a fact.

I once thought she'd never be released because if she was she'd be the next President of Colombia. She got liberated and now what?

Ingrid Betancourt...I still have a lot of respect for her and what she believed/believes in, not to mention what she endured. She's one tough lady for damn sure!! I havn't followed what she's been up to since her incredible release from custody. What news that was!

Now, what's being done with the hundreds of other political prisoners? If I was IB, I'd make it my life's goal to negociate the release of the others held in inhumane conditions.

One thing's certain...she's sure paid her dues more than 99.99% of our well respected Colombians. I think the world of her no matter what path she's taken since her release; and no matter what I think of her ill fated trip into guerrilla territory way back when.

Idealistic-Realistic, it matters not...she did what she thought was the right thing to do. I believe she was wrong and paid the price in spades and I'll not cast stones on where she's at in her life right now.

It doesn't matter if you loved or hated John McCain, he like Ingrid paid their dues to their country. Nuff said... She loves Colombia more than the Gringos/as on this Board, don't kid yourselves. It really doesn't matter that she had duel citizenship.

Airto, she was kidnapped because she was running for the presidency of Colombia and was one hell of a political prisoner.

Theres a little more to it than that:

1. She was kidnapped because she went to an area where there were known farc and instead of listenng to govt and taking a plane , she took a car.

2. She was very outspoken about the farc and especially the kidnappings.

3. The farc would have kidnapped anyone one they could in politics at that time and she just happened to be in the right place at the right time, for the farc

TONK no doubt about any of your feelings, I only brought this up as I mentioned it was enlightening what i heard from some of my colombian friends. I am not knocking her, that is not my intention.

I hope this is not too sensitvie of a subject for you guys.

Thanks,

At first I thought maybe she was single out for a some reason other than just being a candidate but if she was in the wrong place (where they are active) then that would explain how this got. If she was extremely outspoken then I think she probably would have been a target anyway.

AIRTO
There is a great documentary that was started before she got kidnapped , i think that is what tonk is referring to. It follows her into that last moment, and than the documentary continues thru her captiviy. I saw it before she was released. It is a good view, check it out at netflix. It was done by an american woman who loved Ingrids outspokeness...

Here is an article that just came down the pike from Colombia about her first visit.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp...wE0HCcYLALPVFQ

Apparently the this last march was much smaller than before..

Here is some trivia how did they start those first marches this year? Who organized them and how??

Did you know that they had millions of people this last spring at one of the march. They figured like 7-10% of all colombians left work and marched on that fine day!!!
